(:MY COUNTRY POEM :)

My Country

I love a bushland country,

Where the national colours are green and gold,

Deserts reaching far and wide,

Acres of paddocks being sold

Why do so many of us flock here?

Not because of the constant droughts,

But because us Aussies are so sincere,

Australia is the home for me.

Kookaburras and koalas invade our forests,

Our polluted rivers complete with fish,

Barramundis, Cods and the unfortunate Carp,

A banana shortage I do not wish,

A vegemite sandwich we all love,

Blue skies and the harmful sunrays,

We can look forward to from above,

Where else to be I say.

John Howard is our prime minister,

The one with bushy eyebrows,

Some may say he is sinister,

A subject worth debating,

Logginf is declining the number of animals left,

Petrol prices are skyrocketing,

Why not do anything about this theft?

But because our money he is pocketing.

Out in the bush all is hush,

As quiet as a mouse,

We all know about the recent gold rush,

Pieces that could buy you a new house,

G’day is how we greet,

Slang is how we speak,

What a friendly country,

The only one for me.

I especially like your lines about the Prime Minister.

I like your emphasis on the friendliness of Australians. It is a thing we just can’t fake, can we?

Banana shortage reminded me of Paul Keating and the Banana Republic which was happening or about to happen around the time you students were born.
